July 24 - Eidfjord, Norway

 This was our last stop in Norway, and it was a real treat.  We didn't have a tour scheduled so we just walked around the tiny town.  We docked right in the middle - well, it was hard not to since the town only has about 1,000 permanent residents.  Right in front of us was a beautiful hotel and many were on their decks watching us come in.  This town has lots of tourism and is on the main road between Oslo and Bergen, two of the largest cities in Norway, so it gets much exposure.  There is a television show on National Geographic called Ice Road Rescue which is based here and highlights the various heavy vehicle mishaps that occur in the winter on these trecherous mountain roads and the rescues made by a towing company from Eidfjord.  I'll have to see if I can find it when we're home.
