July 19 - Bodo, Norway

We will be crossing the Arctic Circle tonight so we'll have our first sunset in a while. A whole 2-1/2 hours of "night". This morning we had a walking tour with a perfectly nice young woman who needed a bigger voice.  There were 24 of us and we had to get really close to hear her.  This isn't a very big town (53,000) but it has the northernmost train station and is a very busy port.  But walking around you wouldn't know it.  It was very quiet even though we saw the first stoplight in many days.   This seems to be Norway's version of our 7-11 stores.  We've seen them all over. This is a bunker left over from WWII.  It's right outside the Bodo Cathedral. The electric bell tower outside the cathedral. The bench pews had heaters under each which would keep your bottom and your legs warm.   The cathedral has an interesting history.  The original wooden building was destroyed when the Germans invaded in 1940.  The townspeople knew th...
