This was our last stop in Norway, and it was a real treat. We didn't have a tour scheduled so we just walked around the tiny town. We docked right in the middle - well, it was hard not to since the town only has about 1,000 permanent residents. Right in front of us was a beautiful hotel and many were on their decks watching us come in. This town has lots of tourism and is on the main road between Oslo and Bergen, two of the largest cities in Norway, so it gets much exposure. There is a television show on National Geographic called Ice Road Rescue which is based here and highlights the various heavy vehicle mishaps that occur in the winter on these trecherous mountain roads and the rescues made by a towing company from Eidfjord. I'll have to see if I can find it when we're home.

| These little villages tucked in along the fjords are delightful. Here you can see agriculture in the hills. |
| If you look closely, you can see a suspension bridge just ahead. The morning light wasn't in my favor. |
| If you enlarge this you should see the bridge going right into a tunnel. There's another tunnel on the other end as well. There are over 1,200 tunnels in Norway. |
| There's the beautiful Voringfoss Hotel with the tour buses lined up in front. |
| We overhung this pier by a fair bit and here are the 5 guys tying us up in front. The back only took 3 for some reason. |
| My camera phone just doesn't do justice to how beautiful this country is. |
Finally, the temperature was a very pleasant 74ish so walking around was very comfortable. As we often do, we wandered through the town's grocery store and found prices to be high on many, but not all things. A can of Guinness beer was about $5.50, and a dozen eggs were about the same. A regular-sized box of Cheerios was $6, but a larger Corn Flakes was only $3.50
| Wiping paper leaves no doubt about its use. $6.50 for 4 single-ply rolls. Yikes. |
| Asian food is popular here. There was another Thai takeaway stand near the ship. |
| Here's a recycling center for light bulbs, batteries and small appliances. |
| And a machine to return your cans and bottles for a refund of the deposit in the form of a store credit slip. |
| This wasn't open or we might have stopped for a burger and beer. |
| You can see the RV camp on the right. Traditionally Norwegians had "country cottages" but more are turning to campers since they cost less to maintain and are much more versatile. We've seen lots in our travels here. |
| I would love to have my morning coffee on the deck just staring at those mountains surrounding the fjord. |
| Our ship stands head and shoulders above the town. |
Eidfjord was a real gem and we talked about how we could easily spend a few weeks here and just take in the easy pace. Of course, we happened to be here when the weather was ideal. Everywhere we've been so far we've been told that we are having unusually warm weather.
We are now sailing away from Norway and our next stop will be Amsterdam in a couple of days. We'll miss Norway but are thankful we have such wonderful memories of this amazing and beautiful place.
Trivia was only 9/15 but that was still enough for a point since it was a bit harder today.
