July 16 - Honningsvag, Norway

We woke up this morning after a pretty mild night after all and were able to dock near the downtown where we've docked before.  This will be our third time here and it is a tradition that we go up to North Cape (Nordkapp) again.  It claims to be the northernmost city in Europe, and I won't dispute that.

Opened our curtains to see this next to us.  I know it's only a tug boat, but it looked rather menacing to me.

The drying fish heads were right outside the walk to the buses.  I suspect they are just for show, but they're impressive nonetheless.  The guide on our RIB trip the other day said they dry these, then grind them into a powder and ship them to Romania, where they are used in a special dish.  I'll take his word for it,

Our bus up to Nordkapp left at 12:15 pm.  It's about a 40-minute ride through some pretty bleak countryside up a very narrow and sometimes windy road.  No need to tell us twice to fasten our seat belts.

Not a tree to be seen.

Some grazing reindeer.

The famous globe is the symbol of Nordkapp

Taken today.

Today without the sunglasses

This was from 2022.  That day was very foggy/cloudy and the wind was howling so hard we could barely walk and we had to walk halfway to this globe before we could even see it.

Today's weather was just a bit windy with high clouds so we had a pretty good view of the area.

Didn't see any of this last time

It's a nice complex

A long way down to the water

Again today

This was our first visit in 2010.  We are looking a bit younger here, but the marker has also gained a lot of stickers over the years.

The building here goes down 3+ levels into the rocks and there is a little chapel there.  The vertical thing in the middle that looks like a reflection is actually a whole lot of strings put together to look like the ocean with a whale tail half-way up.  It was very striking in person.

This is the "northernmost chapel in Europe".  I'm not sure why it was there, but it was very beautiful.

This monument is to commemorate a week in July 1988 when 7 children from 7 countries stayed here together for a week and created this as a symbol of "cooperation, friendship, hope and joy."

Regent provided a tour bus for crew to get up to see Nordkapp also which I think was very nice.  It's good to see them having a bit of fun since they work so hard.

Jan and Tom had done this tour earlier in the day and they had a bit more wind, but were still able to see the scenery.  We did a bit better today at Trivia with 12/15 which got us a point.  And tonight we had our specially requested appetizer of foie gras.  It's not on the menu, but is available with at least 24 hours notice.
