July 10 - Vik, Norway
This post is late due to user error with the wifi. We had to change satellites which meant signing in again to our shipboard account. I had trouble doing that until Gustav in the internet help desk showed me the correct way to do it again. Sigh...
Vik is a small town loctated along the Sognefjord. It was a beautiful sail in again. The weather has been cooperative so far. It was a bit cloudy but only way up high so we could see the tops of the mountains. Sailing along you start to think, oh yes, those are pretty tall hills. And then you look at the tiny little houses along the waterline and realize, no those are really big mountains. There has been only a bit of snow visible way up at the top, but the rest is almost all green.
We didn’t have a tour here, so we let the morning tours go ahead since this was a tendering port. We headed in just after lunch and had a bit of a walk around. It took only an hour to see most everything. We elected not to walk all the way to the church. Instead we had a look around the small supermarket where we observed that liquor prices are very high, but some of the other things weren’t too bad. The bell peppers were all individually shrink wrapped in plastic and cost about $2 each. Bananas were around $1.50 per pound. Boxes of cereal were $5 and charging cords were $7, so a real mixed bag.
As we wandered through the neighborhoods we saw several houses with these self-propelled lawn mowers either moving around the yards, or in their charging stations. And we didn’t see any clunker cars – they all seem to be newer and in very good shape. This is a small town so there were no roundabouts or stop lights and again, very little traffic.

| A Thai restaurant was one of only two eateries we saw in town. |

| The little red thing on the lawn is the automatic lawn mower going about its duties. |
It was only the 4 of us at Trivia and we got our more typical score of 7/15. We needed Oly and Holly with us again. Dinner at Compass Rose and back to the cabin to read for a while before bed. With the satellite situation, we don’t have any “live” TV either, only already loaded movies and TV shows.
